The Scholarship Program

The Scholarship Program

The Paco Catholic School  Alumni Association (PCSAA) started its scholarship program in 1967 during the incumbency of its president Sonia Zaldivar.  Its first scholars were Reynaldo A. Mones '71 (PCSAA Chairman of the Board since 1996) and Teresa Bacho '72.  Both enjoyed the scholarship for four years free of tuition and other fees and books.  There is no record, however,  if the Association had other scholars after them.

The PCSAA revived the scholarship in 1996 for school year 1997-1998.  Back then, there were 21 scholars all enrolled at Paco Catholic School in various levels from grade school to high school.  Their scholarship grant then included the tuition fees, miscellaneous fees and books.  The following year, due to lack of funds, the book allowance was removed for the remaining 15 scholars.

Funds for the program come from the donations of several alumni and the funds of the Association.  This is one project of the Association which, we feel has refused to die.  Time and again, there will be donors who would contribute to the fund and keep it alive.  This year we are again appealing to you, fellow Paconians, to help keep some PCS students in school.  Each student would cost approximately P18,000 per school year (excluding books).

Starting SY 2000-2001, MISYS International Banking Systems*, a London-based IT company, is sponsoring a scholarship grant in college.  The scholarship is funded by Misys Charities Foundation through its local subsidiary MISYS International Banking Systems - Manila.  The recipient must take up a computer or computer-related course at the De La Salle University, DLSU-College of Saint Benilde, University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University or University of Santo Tomas.  This grant covers tuition and other fees, books and monthly allowance.  The PCSAA-MKI scholars are Ailenne Crisostomo and Manuel Pineda who are currently enrolled at the DLSU-Manila.

For the AY2001-2002, the PCSAA has 14 scholars with 12 enrolled at Paco Catholic School and 2 at DLSU.  Donations are still accepted.  We have opened a bank account for this purpose.  We would like to raise as much money as we can that would be enough to start a trust fund for the scholarship program of the Association.  We plan this trust fund to be managed by a bank to ensure that the money raised will be used solely for this purpose.

If you are interested to contribute to this fund, please get in touch with the  Alumni Center at (632) 563-2574.
