The Dux Award

The Dux Award

The Dux Award was established by the Board of Directors of the Paco Catholic School Alumni Association 1996-1997 by virtue of Board Resolution Number 9697-03 at the instance of its President Graciano M. Calanog, Jr. [1971] to give due recognition to those students who garnered the highest grade in a particular subject.  It is a Latin word meaning leader and was adopted in Scottish schools to refer to the best student in a class.  The Dux Award for Academic Excellence is given annually to the graduating fourth year high school students in the following subject category: Mathematics, Science, PEHM, Technology and Home Economics, Araling Panlipunan, English, Pilipino, and Values.  The Dux Leadership Award is given to a graduate who has shown exemplary leadership in PCS and in the community where he stays.  The Dux Award for Academic Excellence was first given to the graduating class of 1996-1997.  The medallion was designed by Chairman of the Board, Mr. Reynaldo A. Mones [1971] and his wife Emily G. Resurreccion [1974].

In 1999, the first Dux Award for Outstanding Alumni was given to Dr. Claro T. Llaguno [1961], former Chancellor of the University of the Philippines-Diliman, and Dr. Jose D. Villanueva [1952], President Emeritus of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.
